The Deception of a Best Friend

Best FriendWe all need friends.  We all need people in our lives to talk to.  To reflect with.  To share ideas with, to laugh and love and experience great moments and challenges with.  We are also all disappointed and deceived on a regular basis by the one closest to us.  They deceive you, lie to you, beat you down, steal away your dreams and still you keep going back asking for more.  Never being strong enough to break away and to say "enough is enough".  I'm talking about that friend inside your head.  When we notice someone out in public talking to themselves we label them as having some sort of psychological disorder.  When we talk to ourselves silently we call it thinking.  It is often said that the half way point to curing a problem is admitting we have one.  Well then lets do that.  Lets admit we have one. Lets acknowledge that the one we speak with most often, the voice inside our head has over the years done its best to talk us out of our dreams.  To pose potential pitfalls and risks in living the life we really want.  To fill us full of stress and fear. To beat us down when something does not turn out exactly as planned and at times, even questioning our very legitimacy of being here.  Let me ask this question. Is  this what a real friend would do?  Is this how a real friend would speak? Would a real friend push you down at every turn?  I doubt it. If anyone in your family or company or neighborhood or circle of friends did what the voice in your head did to you on a consistent basis you would cut them out of your life for good.  Here's what we need do then.  Give this friend, this voice one last chance.  Tell it in no uncertain terms that you are not going to tolerate all this negative talk anymore.  From here on,  the only time you will be willing to listen is if the voice wants to point out how great you are or how talented you are or how easy it will be for you to have this or become that.  Otherwise,  just tell it to put a sock in it. We can all live without the deception of a best friend.  Have an excellent day.   Be well,   Randy Taylor   Buy The Books!
